Sofia Fonseca: Online Learning on African Archaeology and Heritage
Lecture „Online Learning on African Archaeology and Heritage: the co-creation process of a Coursera MOOC“ by Sofia Fonseca on 25.10.2023 at 13:30 CET
During the past ten years MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) have gained significantly in popularity: 2021 user numbers totalled around 220 million. On different platforms like Coursera, one of the most frequently used platforms, one can sign for courses from a highly diverse selection of subjects and disciplines. Because only accreditation is chargeable, education itself is available for as many people as possible, which could stimulate the scientific discourse. In this lecture the project of the co-creation of the course „Online-learning on African Archaeology and Heritage“ is going to be introduced. Furthermore, potential difficulties and new opportunities of MOOCs will be presented by means of the creation process.
The project is organised by the DAI and financially supported by the Auswärtiges Amt as well as the Theodor Wiegand Gesellschaft. Further official partners of the project are CORE en Patrimonio Cultural, Interdisciplinary Center for Archaeology and the Evolution of Human Behaviour (ICArEHB), Heinrich Barth Institut, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Universidade Eduardo Mondlane and Universität zu Köln.
